I think it was around 2011, I wrote a Facebook note about being a “human doing” not just a “human being”. I thought I was being clever. I was heavy into the cult of productivity, do do do. But Doing is nothing without the Being. It’s the being that is doing the doing.

It’s like the difference between a sharp axe and a dull axe, both doing the same action. The sharp one, the one that is more practiced, will DO at a higher level.

Being comes before doing. Who you are determines what you do, and how you do it. But what you do and how you do it, in turn, influences you, to be who you are, and to evolve as you are. It is a duality. Or perhaps, a do-ality.

Doing; doing the practice, and the practice of doing; learning the lessons, getting the seasoning, affects the doer. Becoming a better being, and being better opens the doors for the doers.

Next day’s afterthought: But do too much, you’ll get dull. Then you’re done. It’s important to know when not to do, and just be.
