I took a break from writing in this blog to finish school, start a family. Yada yada. So now I have a baby! As of this post, an 18-month old, clone of myself, she-version, and a cute little bugger. Climbing on everything these days. Needless to say, my free time has been zilch (that means 0) and when she’s asleep, I’m usually either cleaning the house or playing ragtime piano. I’ve been on a ragtime piano kick for the past few months.
But now it’s a new school year! And it’s a great time to write, because being stuck indoors with nothing else to do, makes writing a great thing to do! Also: Ragtime piano.
As I’ll be teaching 6-7th Grade Math this year, I’m looking forward to diving (and dividing) into some deep, foundational concepts such as the Rational Numbers, Integers on the 2-D plane, Proportional Reasoning, Percents, Shapes and Angles… I dig these topics! Although I have great expectations for this year, I know there’s a greater than 0% chance of it going awry with the contagion raging and weirdo weather. But I’ll remain optimistic, as I know humans can be quite resilient in hard times. We are built to survive.
On that note, my thoughts are with everyone in the Gulf Coast, without power for weeks, dealing with flooding and storm damage. That was my home for 2 years. We’d get storm warnings all the time, and just never knew if it was going to be THE ONE that tears the roof off, or just another beautiful, rainy day. Stay strong NOLA and my folks from NOLA East to the West Bank! Houston to PCola too, and back.
Anyway, if you don’t write, I suggest you start! It’s one of the best habits to ever have. Not an understatement! It could be a journal/diary, Google doc, notebook, anything… just write.
Even though I haven’t been blogging, I’ve never stopped writing whenever I have a precious thought that I want to save. My brain can’t hold and save all my thoughts. But some are worth saving, I don’t want to forget them, so I write. I can look back on writings years later, and even share them with my future children and grandchildren (hopefully?). I also know that writing can’t be forced. So do yourself a favor: When the time is right, just write.
And have a wonderful day 2:)
